Discover Crafting the Wandle, a free sustainable art exhibition at Canons House, in collaboration with Merton College (30 June – 25 July). Explore local talent, eco-textiles, and vote for your favourite piece!

About The Event

Join Sustainable Merton, the Preloved Studio, and Merton College at Canons House for Crafting the Wandle, a vibrant exhibition celebrating community creativity and the natural beauty of our borough.

This year’s exhibition is inspired by the River Wandle—a rare urban chalk stream flowing through South London. From its clear spring waters and distinctive wildlife to its industrial past and historical connections with figures like William Morris, contemporary makers have used the river as a powerful source of inspiration.

Come explore themes of sustainability, nature, heritage, and connection through an incredible display of local talent.

What’s on Display?

The exhibition brings together a wide range of media, blending traditional crafts with modern sustainability. You will see work from Merton Adult Education students and the Sustainable Merton Network, including:

  • 🧵 Textiles & Embroidery – featuring unique pieces made using reclaimed materials from the Preloved Studio.

  • ✨ Stained Glass

  • 🖋️ Calligraphy & Painting

  • 🎨 Drawing & Mixed Media

🗳️ Have Your Say: Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite piece, with the winning artist receiving a special prize!
