School Visits
Schools are welcome to arrange visits to explore Canons House & Grounds, the Sharing Space and our exhibitions.
Visits to the Sharing Space are teacher-led. A member of the Canons House team will welcome your group, help set up the visit and provide information about the House, Grounds and current exhibition.
The Sharing Space is fully accessible and is accessed via the side entrance opposite the café. The entrance has its own buzzer.
For larger groups, we recommend a maximum of around 25 pupils in the Sharing Space at any one time. Where year groups or larger classes are visiting, groups can be divided between the Sharing Space and activities in the grounds, allowing pupils to explore different aspects of the site.
Exploring the Grounds
There are plenty of opportunities for self-guided activities around Canons House & Grounds, including:
-
Heritage and interpretation: Explore the interpretation at key heritage points including the medieval dovecote and pond, obelisk, heritage track, walled garden and community garden.
-
Observation and sketching: Encourage pupils to sketch, draw or observe the plants, flowers and wildlife around the grounds.
-
Plant & Bug identification: utilise google lens on a tablet/phone to discover the variety of flora in the Grounds
-
Audio trail: Discover more about the site through the Canons House & Grounds Audio Trail.
-
Forest Friends Nature Trail: Follow our nature trail and discover more about the wildlife around Canons House & Grounds.
