Reminiscence Project

What was life like for teenagers growing up in Mitcham during the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s?

The Canons house & grounds is hosting an upcoming reminiscence project. We'd love to capture the memories of people who grew up in Mitcham and spent time at The Canons in the past.

Are you interested in sharing some of your stories with us?

We will be hosting two reminiscence days on the 18th and 20th of November from 16.00-18.00 at The Oaks, SM4 4HR. We will then be working with a group of young people to turn the reminiscences into a heritage film, where sound will be overlaid images from the Merton Memories archive.

Are you interested in learning some skills and creating a heritage film?

We are also looking for young people who are interested in being trained to record reminiscences from our participants. You will be invited to attend a training session on the 16th of November, followed by participating in one of the reminiscence workshops on the 18th or 20th of November.

We will then hold a series of 1:2 interviews to record interviews for the film the first week in December.

We will then have a film-making workshop for all of our young trainees to help design the final film.

The film will premier in the Spring of 2020, as well as being shown as part of the celebrations when the capital works are finished in 2021.

If you are interested in getting involved - please contact the Community Engagement Officer on info@thecanonsmitcham.co.uk or 0208 545 3652.
