About the event
LIVING PRINTS
'An exploration of printing heritage in Merton to current working practice'
Launch Event & Special Screen-Printing Event
Saturday 7th September 11-2pm
Exhibtion Overview:
1. Rediscovering Mertons print legacy with Ripple Arts
Shortly after the closure of the print works. Local antiquarian Peter Harris uncovered approximately 60 screens of varying sizes, abandoned in the "1929 Shop" rescued for the Wandle Indstrial Museum collection. Although the origins and dates of many screens remain uncertain, all are believed to predate 1982
2. Printmaking on fabric workshops and community engagement with Red Louise
Proudly showcases the outcome of the workshop series designed for adults by Red Louise illustration, which explored experimental screen printing, relief, printing, monoprinting and intaglio techniques. Each workshop focused on different themes, drawing on a wealth of reference materials from Merton libraries, Heritage and Local Study Centre and other local resources. Participants engaged with the concept "design patterns from your Merton experience" inspired by the principles of the Arts & Crafts movement
The exhibition will run at Canons House until 27th September.
