Friends of the Canons Workday - The Canons & Three Kings Piece
Time & Location
About the event
As mentioned last month, we were unable to complete work around the fruit hedge at Three Kings Piece. We intend to add this to future workdays if we have sufficient volunteers, starting in April. We have to clear a patch of bramble and convolvulus at the southern end on the fruit hedge, and prepare the ground for a clearance strip both in front and behind the hedge to improve access for litter-picking and pruning in the future.
This month a second team will work in the Canons. The whips planted in the pens at the northern end of Bellamy Copse have grown really well, but some ground maintenance is needed, especially in tackling bramble. It is hoped that we can pull some encroaching nettle and cleavers as well.
Added to this, on the eastern side of this green along Commonside West, the shrubs and hedges require bramble removal, and general sprucing.
Both of these areas will provide good exercise and satisfy the soul at the close of play when admiring the fruits of one's labours.
All tools are provided; please wear appropriate boots or shoes. Meet either at the hedge, 3KP, Commonside West opposite Madeira Road, or at Canons Bellamy Copse. Although we plan to work through until 13.00, please do not feel obliged to stay for the whole session – any volunteer time is precious to us.
