About the event

As mentioned previously, we have been unable to complete work around the fruit hedge at Three Kings Piece. We intend to add this to future workdays if we have sufficient volunteers. We have to clear a patch of bramble and convolvulus at the southern end on the fruit hedge, and prepare the ground for a clearance strip both in front and behind the hedge to improve access for litter-picking and pruning in the future.

Along with the above, we hope that a load of wood-chip will be delivered in time for us to spread the load as a mulch for the newly-planted whips. We were delighted to see that all bar three of those planted had taken, but the grass growth is in danger of swallowing them, so mulching is imperative this month.

The generosity of Friends Barbara & John Mansfield in donating trees to FroC meant that April's session was partly taken up by transporting the trees to their new home. In consequence the clearing of Bellamy Copse pens in the Canons was postponed. The whips planted in these pens have grown really well, but some ground maintenance is needed, especially in tackling bramble. It is hoped that we can pull some encroaching nettle, thistle and cleavers as well if we get a good turn-out on 19th.

All tools are provided; please wear appropriate boots or shoes. Meet either at the hedge, 3KP, Commonside West opposite Madeira Road, or at Canons Bellamy Copse. Although we plan to work through until 13.00, please do not feel obliged to stay for the whole session – any volunteer time is precious to us. Please email to get the contact details for the day.
