Canons House & Grounds
Canons House & Grounds is a £4.4 million project made possible thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund. The project is being undertaken by Merton Council with support from many community groups.
The Lottery funding has enabled a sympathetic restoration of 17th century Canons House to take place. Instead of disrepair, the house Grade II* listed building now has a bright future as a community facility.
The grounds have been rejuvenated, with existing features such as the obelisk (1822), historic running track (1922), pond (1500s or earlier) and walled garden (1600s) restored for the community to enjoy for years to come. There is a new community garden, which is also open to the public to enjoy, along with beautiful new planting schemes throughout.
The project runs until December 2022 and also includes a programme of community activities and events. From 2023 Canons House & Grounds will continue to be a community asset, with the park open for visitors and the house operating as community and workspace and an interpretation area.
